What to Wear Wednesday...with Teri Fode

It's WTWW and this week we have the amazing Teri Fode of Teri Fode Seniors joining us! You're definitely going to want to read this whole post...its a good one and all about that urban sparkle! Take it away, Teri...

"In my book there can never be too much sparkle! I love the style trend of glitz and glam in clothing, tops, dresses and accessories.  It used to be that sparkle was considered solely a "glam evening" look or "dressed up" style. But today, it can be an every-day look pulled into any fashion!

The style I'm referring to is that "everyday sparkle" that can be worn dressed up OR dressed down. It's repurposing a dressy prom dress into a more urban casual look or dressing up a pair of boyfriend jeans with a bit of glitz.

Most of my senior clients love this look and are always looking to add sparkle. Sometimes they bring a sparkle necklace or a shirt but what I find is that many of them don't quite know how to bring it all together without looking too glamorous or like "prom".

Here are a few looks and ideas to help your senior girls repurpose a prom dress (even their junior prom dress for senior portraits!) or dress up a pair of boyfriend jeans.

1) THE REPURPOSED JUNIOR PROM DRESS: I hear a lot of moms trying to talk their daughters into wearing "last year's jr prom dress" as one of her senior session looks. Mom spent a lot of money on it so it makes sense but what girl wants last year's dress in this year's senior session? Enter the leather jacket. This is the season to encourage your senior girls to bring last year's dress and add a leather jacket or cowboy boots! Even a pair of converse shoes with a sparkle dress will give that "urban edgy" look to a prom dress! Add a few "less dressy" accessories and you've mixed urban + glam in a single look.

2) THE TUTU: This is a great look for any girl, even if she isn't a dancer and it's the perfect look for urban-edgy everyday sparkle. Tulle is easy to buy to create your own tutus but there are a lot of etsy shops that offer them as well. Add a simple cami or tank top and your base is ready. From there, add layers of sparkly necklaces or even a tiara! Finish it off with a leather or denim jacket and you now have 2 looks in one (with/without jacket).

3) THE SPARKLE HEADBAND: Charming Charlie's offers lots of simple tiara styles and this can actually be added to any outfit for a touch of glitz! Girls love tiaras but don't ever think of adding them to an outfit like a "headband!" Added to a tutu outfit with a leather (or denim) jacket adds that glitz to  urban glam every time! Or add any sparkly headband to boyfriend jeans for a mix of urban and glitz!

4) THE TEE: Nothing screams everyday sparkle more than a tee shirt added to a sparkle skirt with boots or converse! Dressing up the tee shirt with layered necklaces or a sparkle jacket is the perfect combo for this look. Adding a tee to boyfriend jeans is a casual look but layer on those necklaces or bangles with a pair of wedges or heels and jeans just went from cas to everyday sparkle!

It's all in the layering and combining of casual + dressy with a touch of (or a lot of) sparkle for that urban glam everyday sparkle look! Have a few pieces of sparkle on hand to add to your client's wardrobes at the end of your session to start photographing a "fashion trend" to market with. Once your audience starts seeing these looks they will be asking to be photographed in tulle + sparkle or they will want to repurpose their existing prom dresses! Have fun with these looks!"

I LOVE all of this Teri! Such great information that we can all use and pass along to our seniors! Thank you so much for joining us...and for the beautiful imagery:)
