What to Wear Wednesday...with Sarah Modene

"As a Senior photographer who focuses on fashion and style with my clients, I am always looking for new color combinations to use when shooting with my Seniors. One technique I’ve been using this spring is utilizing Pantone’s absolutely AMAZING spring palette, which has been a fun challenge in my recent shoots! The color trends Pantone has introduced for the spring season consist of mostly cooler, pastel hues with some warmer tones mixed in. Let’s chat about some ways that you can combine spring colors using Pantone’s spring palette using specific color examples, from makeup and background colors to accessories and patterns!
AQUAMARINE & TOASTED ALMOND
One of my favorite combinations from this season is Pantone’s Aquamarine and Toasted Almond shades. Toasted Almond is already such a neutral hue that it is easy to overlay it with the subtle, pastel shade of Aquamarine. Combining these shades in feminine, dainty patterns creates an even more spring-like look for your Senior’s outfit. Add in some nude wedges, a few accessories in the bolder color that you are using in your palette, and you’re all set!
MARSALA, STRAWBERRY ICE, & LAVENDER HERB
Strawberry Ice might be my favorite shade in Pantone’s spring palette! It can be used as a bold color to layer with more neutral or metallic accessories, or you can combine it with an equally bold color for dramatic effect. Spring blooms are one way to add a pop of color behind your Senior in Strawberry Ice, such as this beautiful redbud tree that brings out Pantone’s Lavender Herb hue. Add a bold lip in Marsala (Pantone’s color of the year!), and you have a warm, poppin’ color palette in your shot!
STRAWBERRY ICE & WOODBINE
Speaking of utilizing your background to add color to your shots, you can hardly ever go wrong with green! My Senior in her Strawberry Ice top pops against a background of Woodbine, one of my favorite green hues in Pantone’s spring palette. Pink and green can be a pretty common spring color combination, so adding in some metallic accents and softer colors can create some variety.
CUSTARD, TOASTED ALMOND, & STRAWBERRY ICE
I absolutely loooove this color combination! Custard and Strawberry Ice are such beautifully muted warm hues that go so well with Toasted Almond, and any way you can combine these color will turn out gorgeous! Floral, feminine patterns with delicate details will be a perfect base for these colors, so be on the lookout for similar textures and prints when combining these shades!
MARSALA, TREETOP, & DUSK BLUE
Pantone’s color of the year Marsala is such a spicy, warm hue that it can be fun to mix in other colors to emphasize its boldness. In this shot, I placed my Senior in her Marsala top against a backdrop of green (close to Pantone’s Treetop hue) and blue (these flowers resemble Pantone’s Dusk Blue shade) to make her outfit and eyes pop. Marsala is such a striking color on its own, but mixing in other similar jewel tones can create a jaw-dropping array of colors that will make your image stand out.
LUCITE GREEN, TANGERINE, MARSALA, & CUSTARD
Our last combination is the busiest! Combining three warmer shades with a cooler shade that pops (Lucite Green) in an outfit will really make your image pop! Place your Senior with their outfit showing off these colors against a more neutral or hazy background to really make their outfit stand out! You can even use an accent (as in this image, a simple flower) with one of the shades in the outfit to make it pop even more.
Pantone’s spring colors are really the perfect shades for spring, and there’s no limit to the creative combinations you can come up with using these hues! Have fun creating combinations with your outfits, backdrops, and even makeup!"
