What to Wear Wednesday....with Ali Johnson

It's WTWW! This week, to continue our Urban theme, Ali Johnson Photography is joining us to talk all about jackets!"August is usually crazy hot and I'm sure fall clothing is the furthest thing from your mind! Since cooler months are right around the corner, today’s "What to Wear Wednesday" is all about incorporating jackets into your urban sessions.I love it when seniors accessorize their outfits and jackets are one of the easiest ways to do this! At the beginning of each session, I have my seniors show me all of the outfits they've brought with them. I tell them to bring WAY more than we would ever have a chance to use as I'm all about options! Since urban locations are constantly changing, with new graffiti or a freshly painted wall, you don't always know what to expect.Using  a Colorful BackgroundDuring the session, I keep an eye out for specific colors that will tie in with my senior's outfits. I had visited this location many times before but the addition of this bird mural was a wonderful surprise. I was so glad we'd waited to use this fantastic green leather jacket...the colors really complement each other!Same thing with these twins...we totally lucked out and found walls that matched both of their outfits.Another option is to pair a black or neutral jacket with a bright colored background . This really helps the senior pop out of the photo. Using a Neutral BackgroundWith urban sessions, you often find yourself dealing with a non-descript background.  While you can pair a bright jacket with the surroundings, another option is to go for a moody vibe. These photos I took in a parking garage are perfect examples. Since everything was pretty neutral, I had the seniors give me serious expressions. This really helps produce a dramatic effect. Show off  their PersonalityJackets are a great way for seniors to show off their individual personality.
