Here is what Keala had to say about her session!

Please describe the session: "This was an international destination senior session that I photographed in Madrid Spain. It was important for us to really capture an international flavor while still staying true to her personality and youthful flair. We woke up at dawn to eliminate as many tourist in the photos as possible and explored endlessly for inspiration."

What educational topic would you like to write about?

"When creating a session for your clients, one of my favorite tools is having each of my seniors create a mood board. As a visual person, the moodboards my clients make help me SEE the type of session that best highlights who they are and what they love.

I started by creating a few of my own to help inspire and encourage the possibilities their mood board can have. Making sure I not only continue to add to each of my boards today, but to also ensure that there are lots and LOTS of images. This helps me create a standard of the sheer amount of images in their mood board I am expecting. When you have a senior send you a mood board with 10 images only, it is difficult to really get a grasp on the story they want told as a whole.

With their mood board you'll start to see patterns and styles of the aesthetic they like, the emotions they want achieve, and a cohesiveness of what they are expecting. From there have them describe in general why they chose certain photos and what they like about them. This helps them feel involved in the process of creating a session specifically for them. I try to create a list of 3-5 words from the mood board that I write down on my camera to help anchor me to the theme of their photo shoot.

Mood boards have become essential in my creating process as a window to each of their personalities and using my expertise to find a way to capture that authentically."
