In case you hadn't noticed, Senior Guys are a big deal here at Senior Style Guide! Our first ever GUYS Issue debuted this month and WOW it is killer! The knowledge that is packed into this magazine, from the absolute best in the business, is overwhelming. If you haven't ordered your copy yet, you can get it now by clicking HERE!One of the things that I share in my article is how you need to make sure that potential clients know that you photograph the guys. And one of the ways to do that is by sharing photos of your products featuring the guys. But I've seen so many comments where people are just intimidated to share product photos or they aren't sure where to start. So I wanted to help out with that situation and show you how simple it is take photos of your products and make them look great. My house is the worst for letting natural light in! We have high ceilings and not very many windows in our main rooms and our house is typically pretty dark. I think a lot of people assume that they need some wonderful light set-up or a perfect background but that's just not true at all. I have one little corner where the light streams thru my french doors so I just make the best use of what I have available. Here's a few tips for getting fantastic product photos using whatever you have available...1. FIND THE BEST LIGHT AND WORK FROM THEREHere's the area that I use...definitely not picture perfect! btsproduct1This is a tiny corner of my great room but it's the best source of light in my whole house so I just move the furniture out of the way and slide my little table over. I'm sure there's a spot in your house where the light is good at some point of the day. Whether it's a counter top or a table that you can use, just rearrange some items if necessary to make your own product shooting space.2. USE ACCESSORIES TO ADD INTEREST, COLOR, DEPTHAlthough the focus is on the products, I always try to add an accessory to the shot just to add some color or dimension. I just scrounge around my house and bring in all sorts of things....chairs, floral arrangements, candle sticks, easels, leather ottomans, vases, votives...it's pretty much endless what you can use. I've even thrown rugs over my little table to add some texture.2015-01-21_0008Don't worry about having fancy props...anything that will add a touch of style and still remain consistent with your brand will work.2014-03-06_00013. PHOTOGRAPH ALL THE ANGLES OF YOUR PRODUCTCorners, sides, back covers, spines....be sure to photograph every angle of your product, not just the front, so clients will see that it's beautiful and high-quality from every which way they look.2015-01-21_0007For example, I love the fact that even the spines of my 4x8 Accordion Albums look really cool and have the Senior info on them. So I make sure to always get a shot of the spine to show that the graphics and attention to detail are on the entire album. Below you can see my super simple set-up and the finished photo. So easy!2015-01-21_0006 4. GET THOSE CLOSE-UPSMost potential clients will check out your social media long before they visit you in person, so be sure to get in close and capture all the wonderful things that will leave them dying to have your products in their own hands.2015-01-21_00092015-01-21_0001As you can see from these shots, it doesn't take a lot of room or a lot of fancy stuff to create some fabulous product photos. If you don't offer products yet but want to add them to your menu, start by ordering a few samples and taking photos of those. Then show them off EVERYWHERE!HAPPY SHOOTING!christy signature
