Featured Sesssion | Shonda Hilton Photography
Today’s featured session is from Shonda Hilton Photography, located in Langley, WA. Here is what Shonda had to say about her session!
Please describe the session: “These portraits are part of The Traveling Dress 2020. We are a group of 11 photographers from around the country and overseas that went in and purchased a dress to photograph our own model in our style. It has been such a great time to see this dress travel around and how each photographer has taken their own spin on it. Up until my turn with the dress it had only been photographed outside in tall grasses, fields and a gorgeous church. Being I absolutely love studio work (kind of have to when you live near Seattle) so I wanted to do something a little different with the dress.
I knew from the beginning I wanted Kylayna to be my model. She was part of my Senior Rep team the year before and is such an incredible young woman. We also paired up with Kelli Christine for hair and she made my vision of classic to punk come to life. For makeup I wanted something simply and monotone. I used the same color pink from eyelid, blush to lip and just love how it looked on her beautiful skin! For the more punk look we added a little gloss to get the wet look to her eye and Kylayna was such a trooper as it is a bit of a sticky process. I'm just super grateful to have this opportunity to do something creative and share my spin on something.”
Tell us about the gear used: “This was all shot with one studio strobe with a 6ft umbrella and diffusion panel. Canon EOS R and swapped back and forth with the 35mm RF and 24-105 RF lens. A simple setup but such amazing images!”
What inspired this session? “I had a the idea of yin and yang more or less. Something soft and beautiful mixed with something bold and fun. I have always thought faux hawks were pretty and spunky and knew for the bold look that was a must along with adding in the leather jacket.”
Hair and Makeup Artist: “Makeup was done by me as I've been a makeup artist for 20 or so years now and hair was Kelli Christine.”
