Featured Session | Ivy Towler Photography
Today we are featuring a senior session from Ivy Towler Photography, located in Coralville, Iowa. Here is what Ivy had to say about her session.
Please describe the session: “Bailey is an artist and will be attending art school after high school. She had several unique to her outfits for this session that helped to express her many facets of individuality. We didn't get the luxury of planning her session ahead of time so we flew by the seat of our pants after a few texted ideas. This specific part of her session was the most important part in honor of her maternal grandfather. I knew we needed to keep the images simple yet still express her individual style. We chose the monochromatic backdrop of concrete and steel in a local parking ramp stairway. It is a glass enclosed area which kept us from the elements but offered plenty of natural light.”
Tell us about the gear used: “Nikon D810 with 24-70 lens, natural light.”
What inspired this session? In Bailey's words: “The outfit was made up of an old hat of my grandpa’s and his Vietnam dog tag. The rest of the outfit were just accessories in my mind that helped his old clothes stand out but also tie them together. My grandpa was one of the biggest role models in my life. He was always there for me and loved me unconditionally like how I loved him. He was a strong, independent man who was kind as can be to those around him. Growing up I wanted to be just like him because I thought he was the coolest person around and I still think he is. He passed away a couple years ago and his hat and dog tag is all I have of his. Since he was such a huge person in my life, I wanted to honor him in my senior photos so I’d always have a good memory to look back on.”
Hair and Makeup Artist: “Bailey did her own eye makeup and contour after the makeup artist did her base foundation. For this part of the shoot she styled her own hair with the hat but it was initially styled at Salon Ludic by Lindsay Parker.”
