How Your Enneagram Type Can Help You During Quarantine
During these unprecedented times, knowing your personality and how it may be showing up during these times of stress can help you navigate this difficult time.
With the move to virtual work and social distancing, we need to be aware of our neighbors and make efforts to remain connected. Recognize how you can help and serve in your gifts and talents, and make this an opportunity to shine light on a dark moment.
Type 1 - The Improver
Type 1's should be aware of how you may be judging others & projecting resentment toward others for how they are navigating these uncertain times. This comes out of your desire for everyone to follow the rules and adhere to "right & wrong." You can use your gifts by helping to create systems and processes to keep others safe & healthy. Educate others in the spirit of teaching - not preaching. Use your heart for social justice to seek out those who need help.
Type 2 - The Helper
Type 2's can be aware of how the required social distancing may create feelings of disconnect for you because of the fulfillment you get from relationships. Get creative with virtual connections to keep a spirit of community. Stay in tune to your own needs & ask for help if you need it. More than ever, keep up with self care to relieve stress. 2's are natural helpers so seeking out areas to help in this climate is needed now more than ever. Post on your neighborhood page or social media to find others that may be of need of groceries, supplies or assistance.
Type 3 - The Achiever
Type 3's are out there making sure they are the best at social distancing! :) Just kidding - sort of :) , but be mindful of overworking in an effort to avoid the feelings that could be coming up for you. You may be tempted to push them aside and work harder, but give yourself the space to feel them and name them. You can use that passion and drive to share the optimism that you bring to difficult situations. Foster a spirit of thinking outside the box and mobilizing others to stimulate small businesses and creating work for those that may have been displaced from their current source of income.
Type 4 - The Individualist
Type 4's need to pay attention if your feelings may be owning you instead of you owning your feelings. These uncertain times can feel heavy and cause you to want to sit in your feelings, but practice moving out of all of the feeling and into more doing. You can activate your gut center by moving your body, being of service to others or writing in a gratitude journal. You have an uncanny ability to sit with others in their pain and worry. You are so gifted at authentic empathy to help others feel seen and heard in times of grief, sorrow and pain. Use your incredible ability to express the grander beauty in this world to help foster healing.
Type 5 - The Investigator
Type 5's can be vigilant of your tendency to get stuck in the data and research of what is happening in this pandemic. Your zest for knowledge and information can create a never ending cycle for you to desire to learn more as data continues to surface. Use your gifts by sharing information and knowledge to others in a way that informs and educates. Get the data out to the world in a way that creates comfort in knowing, without creating a spirit of fear and worry.
Type 6 - The Loyalist
Type 6's may be feeling a bit like everyone else is finally experiencing the same level of worry and anxiety that they have everyday. Yet, 6’s should remain cognizant of your underlying FEAR that is sitting right at the surface. More than any other type, the uncertainty this unprecedented time creates can make you feel the height of your anxiety. Get out of your head and into your body by free flow journaling your thoughts (all of them) & moving your body. Your natural sense to keep the community at the forefront of your attention is an important contribution in today's climate. You naturally think about what's best for the group as a whole, which is desperately needed when the tendency can be to be focused on individual needs.
Type 7 - The Enthusiast
Type 7's need to pay attention to your tendency to make light of the gravity of the circumstances the world is experiencing. Others may feel as if their concerns are diminished by your "sunny side" approach. You may feel trapped or limited (or bored) as plans change or events get cancelled. Use this as an opportunity to STAY in the feelings that brings instead of planning the next thing. Keep showing up with your joy & laughter in what may feel dark & heavy to many. Your optimistic spirit can lift others and take their mind off their current situation. Keep sharing all those funny memes that make us laugh and your infectious spirt for life!
Type 8 - The Challenger
Type 8's can notice if your impatience for how others may be navigating this crisis is showing up. Much is out of your control right now and that may be making your feel weak or vulnerable. Lean into trusting your inner circle of friends and family, ask for help if you need it and pay close attention to when anger is rising. Use your gift and passion of being a voice for those whose voice is not being heard at times like this. Your heart for social justice can be world changing in this climate to ensure that everyone's needs are being met. Use your natural leadership to activate others to help.
Type 9 - The Peacemaker
Type 9's may find yourself relying on some of your numbing tendencies to avoid the situation at hand. You may be tempted to disengage or avoid what needs to be done in the moment. Be conscious of staying in the present with gratitude instead of reflecting on how things used to be. Use your gift as a natural mediator to create unity at such a divided time in our history. You ability to help others feel seen and heard in a vulnerable time is needed.
