What to Wear Wednesday...with Mindy Boyer
It's WTWW! This week we have Mindy B Photography joining us to share all about the jacket!
"In Pennsylvania, it's that time of the year where we are transitioning from cold to warm weather. There is still a little chill in the air as we patiently wait for spring and summer days. My favorite fashion "go to" is the leather jacket and the denim jacket. These timeless fashion accessories not only keep you warm, but they can make an average outfit look AMAZING! Today the leather and denim jack are not so much for purpose, but to make a girl look cute and have in her wardrobe forever!
The Leather Jacket: Tan, black, white, red…you can find it virtually in any color. This staple piece can be added to "edge up" a girly outfit. For the feminine-tough look, add to a summer dress. If you want to jazz up your jeans and t-shirt, add a leather jacket and a pair of heels. When you really want to make a statement, amp up your leather jacket with a sequined dress! There are many different styles of the leather jacket: Cropped, Studded, Distressed, Blazer, and Moto. Whether you want that hard and masculine look or that edgy but sweet look, you cannot go wrong by adding the leather jacket. It has been a fashion staple for decades.
The Denim Jacket: The Tomboy, Classic, City Chic, Retro, and the Crop are all different styles of the denim jacket. A favorite in Pennsylvania is to layer over a cute dress and add cowboy boots. To put a modern spin on the denim jacket, wear it with colored denim jeans. For the classic spring look, pair your denim jacket with striped shirts, plaid shirts and colorful pants. Don't be afraid of denim-on-denim! Just make sure your denim jacket is a totally different wash than your jeans to avoid the uniform look. If you want to change the vibe of your entire outfit, just make a slight change in the way the denim jacket looks by rolling up the sleeves or adding a belt.
Making a debut in the 80's and 90's, the denim jacket is still going strong today!
Another way to use the leather jacket and the jean jacket for the senior session is to use it as a prop for posing. I like to have the senior hang it over her shoulder, grab the collar, or have her hands in the pockets.
Check out your local thrift and consignment shops for leather and denim jackets. You never know what stylish or vintage piece might be hanging there ready to top off your outfit! You can never go wrong pairing each one with lace, sequins, and floral materials. Both of them are such versatile pieces of fashion!
So if you ever have a senior who has an awesome outfit but something was missing…have no fear… the jacket is here!"
LOVE this post, Mindy! I couldn't agree more, I always encourage my seniors to bring a jacket. You can change a whole look by just adding the jacket! Thank you so much for this post!
