What to Wear Wednesday...with Jen Bertrand!

It's What to Wear Wednesday! This week we have Jen Bertrand of Jen Bertrand Photographie with us! I have been so stoked about this post so I'm so excited to finally share it with you all. This week, we switch it up a little and talk about the GUYS!

GUY STYLE – LAYERS, LAYERS, LAYERS

"When it comes to what to wear, we have a much easier time styling our senior girls because let’s face it – they have carefully curated their personal style and a majority of them LOVE fashion and the latest trends. Most senior guys, however, would be content showing up to their session in a t-shirt and shorts. While that may work for everyday wear, a lack of styling in a senior guy’s session can make a killer image look unpolished and thrown together.

Thankfully, though, there’s a simple solution – layers. I LOVE layering menswear, and I stress its importance to ALL of my senior guys. The great thing about layering is that you can do a lot with just a few staples that are already in almost every guy’s closet. The key is layering pieces of different colors and patterns, as well as different weight fabrics.  For instance, something as simple as pairing a colored tee under a quarter zip knit sweater brings an element of depth and polish to the outfit while keeping it effortless. And the same pieces can be used to either dress up or dress down your senior’s outfits, depending upon the combination.

Take that same colored tee and place a button down over it and roll the sleeves.  Boom. New outfit. Wanna go a step further? Pair a blue gingham cotton button down with a navy merino sweater, and finish the look with a solid colored wool sport coat (formal) or heavy knit cardigan (casual). You can even add a tie to that same outfit, creating a yet another new outfit with one simple accessory. See what I mean? SIMPLE!

A word of caution, though: layering doesn’t mean bulk. The garments should still fit properly without your senior looking like Randy from “A Christmas Story.”  Layering is timeless, and when done right, it has the power to transform just about any wardrobe from “meh” to “GQ”."

Wow, Jen this is perfect! I love the idea of layering and it all looks amazing! [And I'm pretty stoked that you managed to sneak in Norman Reedus.]Jen is one of our 2014 HOT 100 winners and is also speaking at PUSH next year!!Check back in next week as Jen continues with GUY STYLE!
