What to Wear Wednesday...with Caroline Madsen

It's WTWW and this week we have Caroline Madsen Photography joining to discuss a simple yet very important concept: the classic dress. Will the wardrobe affect the timelessness of the photos?

"The last thing I want my senior girl clients to do when they look back on their senior session 20 years from now is to say to themselves, “What was I thinking?!” Perhaps many of you can relate to that thought, I know I can! I love to help my clients incorporate the latest fashion trends into their wardrobe choices, but the one suggestion I always make is to pick something timeless for one of their outfits, namely the classic dress.

The classic dress transcends time. It allows you to focus more on the subject in the image, rather than being distracted by the actual outfit or accessories. I suggest dresses in a solid color with pretty detailing such as lace, ruffles or decorative stitching to add texture and interest. Add a simple necklace, earrings or even a hat, and the classic dress becomes the backdrop for my clients’ natural beauty to be displayed. Pair it with something unexpected, such as cowboy boots, converse sneakers or a denim vest/jacket for a more whimsical look, without being overly complicated. Fresh flowers, and simple jeweled headbands can make a lovely hair accessory to add a pop of color or feminine touch.

The classic dress is one outfit choice that I feel my clients won’t look back on with regret. Simple, timeless and feminine; the classic dress is guaranteed to showcase the natural beauty of any senior girl. We can still have fun with other trendy and fashionable outfits at their senior session, but I feel like the classic dress is a staple item that every senior girl should consider!"

Thanks SO MUCH for this suggestion, Caroline! I love this concept, and I may just have to start implementing it! Making timeless photos can make us even better photographers! Your images totally rock btw;)
