Topic Thursday...Sweet IzzyCakez by Kristie Bradley Photography
Super excited to share today's Topic Thursday! We are going to be featuring a teen entrepreneur and baking extraordinaire! And those of you who attended the Senior Style Guide Virginia Shootout already know how amazing she is! I absolutely loved the SSG cupcakes she made for the attendees! A big thank you to Kristie Bradley Photography for the amazing photos! So let's meet Sweet Izz CakezHow long have you been in business?6 monthsWhat made you want to start a baking business?Since I was little, I would always bake cakes, cupcakes, brownies, etc because I found it fun. As time went on, I became better and better at it, and I began to love iteven more. Once I began to experiment with cake and frosting combinations and fondant and molding chocolate decorations, people began to ask me to do cakesand cupcakes for them. Eventually, more and more people began to ask me for them, which is when I decided to open sweet izzycakez. How are you inspired?Generally, I am given a theme, and then I brainstorm ideas that will fit the theme of the order. After I have an idea of what I want the cake to look like, I begin to sketcha drawing of it. Most ideas come from my head, but I often use social media sites, such as Pinterest, or research the theme on Google to make sure I obtain the mostdetail and originality in each and every order I do.What tips and tricks or advice do you have to other teens who want to starttheir own business or follow their dreams? My advice for other teens that want to follow their dreams is to believe in yourself, even when the odds are against you. Owning a business is difficult; it requires a lottime, dedication, responsibility, and love. If you decide to own a business, you have to make sure you are positive you want to do it, and then do it. Also, in the businessworld, not everyone will respond to your work as you wish. However, the majority of the population will be very supportive in you and your work. Lastly, make sure you love what you do because, I believe, you have to love what you do in order to do the best you can, and people can tell if you really love to do it.What is your go-to baking essential? My go-to baking essential is my Kitchen Aid Pro Mixer.Where do you see sweet izzycakez going? Any big dreams, plans, orsurprises?I hope to see sweet izzycakez become even better known to the public. sweet izzycakez has several surprises; however, they are currently not being announced. One surprise sweet izzycakez will be introducing to the public is mini-tiered cakes; a tiered cake in a smaller version. This idea came about because many peoplewant tiered cakes, but don’t need that many servings, so mini-tiered cakes will allow people to have the “tiered look” without the unnecessary servings. In thefuture, I hope to open a sweet izzycakez store front. We want to follow you! One of my favorite flavors is my chocolate fudge cake with a peanut butter frosting.Another favorite is my yellow cake with a raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. My carrot cake and cream cheese frosting is good as well. What’s next for sweet izzycakez?sweet izzycakez will develop a website in the near future.xoxo,Vickie
