SSG Exclusive | Fierce Photography

Today’s SSG Exclusive is from Sara Fierce of Fierce Photography of Davenport, Iowa. Here is what Sara had to say about her session!

Please describe the session: “Sarah was my first official 2019 senior. She literally had her session the Monday after her junior year ended. Loved this girl--she was fun and easy-going and a natural in front of the camera. Because she was my very first senior, I wanted to ask her back later in the year for another session just for fun! I also knew she wouldn't mind a session photographed in film. Shooting with film takes me a little longer than with my digital cameras because I'm metering (especially with strobes involved) and the end result has a grainier feel than digital. I happen to love film images more than digital, and because I often times sneak a roll into each session, I know the seniors like it too. They always end up choosing the film images!”

Tell us about the gear used: ”I mostly used my medium format camera, the pentax 645n for fuji400h 120 film. And one roll of 1600iso 35mm film in my canon eos3. The lights I used were most likely my alien bees.”

What inspired this session? “I love, love, love photographing with film. I still feel the suspense/thrill of not knowing exactly what I've got until the scans arrive! I also wanted to practice using strobes with film in studio, as opposed to natural outdoor light that I normally use.”
