ShutterChic: New York Fashion Week

With all the red carpets from awards shows and New York Fashion Week going down over the past weeks, I am overrun with pretties on my Instagram feed!!!  I love to follow designers so I can see what fashion trends are about to hit the stores over the next few seasons.  It helps me dress my seniors and teens and make sure they're on top of their fashion game!  With all the glorious fashion I've seen come across my phone screen, I've noticed some major trends that are happening across the board.  Use this blog posts as a what to wear guide for spring and summer...you can put the link in an email and make it easy for your girls!  I've found wearable ways for your teens to make these trends happen in real life. One of my favorite trends that I noticed in my feed is citrusy colors.  I'm normally not a yellow/orange girl...but these colors just look fresh and springy, and not pastel like we've seen in the past.  Tory Burch, Narciso Rodriguez, and Rag & Bone hit the citrus color trend hard in their collections.2In some of the more formal collections like Marchesa, Vera Wang, Givenchy, Jason Wu (a FLOTUS favorite), and Balmain, we are seeing TONS of feathers, texture, and ruffles!!  I'm personally a huge fan of a feather skirt.  These elements are super ladylike and add interest to an outfit!  While most of these trends appeared in gowns, I've made some selections that translate to real life wear so that you don't have to attend the Oscars to make it work.  I especially love the colorblock skirt that channels Taylor Swift's Grammy's dress!1I think it's so funny how trends come and go, and I've been seeing tons of 90's inspired outfits lately.  Menswear was huge in the 90's and it's back!  Making menswear wearable is all about structure and clean lines.  That doesn't mean you can't have a little fun with it and keep it young!!  The menswear trend was a favorite with Michael Kors, DKNY, Rodarte, and Vera Wang at New York Fashion Week.3Nothing says spring like punchy prints!!!  This season, Tommy Hilfiger and Coach favorite ethnic prints with lots of bold colors, while Marc Jacobs goes for more geometric shapes and prints.  As always Diane VonFurstenburg opts for floral.  I love ALL these options below for my seniors.  So photogenic!  I can just see the amazing accessories to complete these outfits swimming around in my head.4You know this is a favorite of mine: black and white!  It was EVERYWHERE on the runway last week.  I love the versatility of it...from fun to casual to flirty to chic!  Black and white was hot for Philip Lim, Vera Wang, Rodarte, Oscar De La Renta, Michael Kors, and Proenza Schouler.  EVERYBODY can wear this trend!5
