On Our Radar...Jackie K Photo
I am very excited about our new column "On Our Radar"Is there a photographer whose work you find yourself going back to again and again? Maybe you have never heard of this photographer? Perhaps they are “flying under the radar”? It happens but I want to find those photographers. I want to celebrate their work.Each month we will be featuring an artist who is inspiring others, who may not necessarily be someone you have heard of. From time to time I will be enlisting the help of the SSG community to nominate an artist. I want to hear their story, share their triumphs and hear what they are doing to make this dream of theirs a reality. We can learn from others whether it be through inspiration, education or everything in between.This community will only get stronger if we are there to uplift and give as many people as possible a voice.Our "On Our Radar" artist this month is Jackie Karabinis of Jackie K Photo.Nominated By: Vickie Black"I fell in love with her work through a Senior Style Guide daily instagram feature and have followed her ever since. In Jackie's Words...Tell our readers a little about yourself?I am married to the man of my dreams, absolutely love being a mama to my sweet baby girl and excited for our second girl who is on the on way! I love to travel and learn about different parts of the world while seeing all its beauty. I am the owner of a boutique photography business in Central California, Jackie K Photography, specializing in high-end fashion photography for high school senior girls.
What influences your style?My style is influenced by what is on trend. I love clean simple modern design, but also love bright bold colors and patterns! Architecture, nature and fashion influence my photographic style. Stylizing my clients and posing them with simple, elegant and beautiful backgrounds is my passion.
Where do you look for inspiration?I love anything that has to do with art and design, but I find most inspiration form my daily life. I am inspired every time I open my mailbox and love to look through the latest fashion magazines, fashion catalogs or print adds. Driving through town and spotting interesting new locations with amazing buildings and backdrops, inspires me to get out my camera and start shooting. Of course, all the amazing photographers I follow, also inspire me!
How did you get started? I have always had a love for beautiful photography, but especially beautiful portraits. I took my first photography class in high school and fell in love with the art. I followed my passion for the arts and received my bachelors in Interior Design, but was brought back to photography when I realized it was my true passion.
What are you plans for the future with your business?I plan to continue specializing in fashion photography for high school senior girls and in the future hope to expand with my own studio!
Anything else you think would help someone starting out in this market?If you take advantage of training opportunities, stay on top of current trends, make sure you are shooting what you love and are passionate about what you are doing, everything else will fall into place.
