Featured Senior Session | Kira Adele Photography
Today’s featured senior session is from Kira McIlhany of Kira Adele Photography, located in Niagara, WI. Here is what Kira had to say about her session!
Please describe the session: “I went with a Boho/Western theme for my annual "styled" (no other vendors besides venue and HMUA) session for my senior spokesmodel team. The girls had so much fun and were so stoked to get to be with the horses! I bought most of the accessories from Shein and Amazon, and the girls put their outfits together themselves with lots of guidance and suggestions from me, ha. I told my stylist what I had in mind for the overall "vibe" of the session and told her I wanted lots of braids, but other than that, I let her be as creative as she wanted to be. I wanted her to have fun and get to do something out of the ordinary that she liked as well!”
Tell us about the gear used: “I shot this session with my Canon 5D Mark iii, a Sigma Art 35mm lens, and a Canon 85mm f/1.2L. I may have used a reflector disk for a few. We used a couple of Enola Gay smoke bombs to create "dust" clouds, and I used Twyla's LLFX Celestial stars brushes for the final blue hour image. I don't know if those last couple count as gear, but I thought they deserved a mention!”
What inspired this session: “My mother-in-law owns a hobby farm in the UP that she has turned into a family business for people to come and experience the farm. Their property is beautiful and they have several horses. I posed the idea of going up there to my girls, and they were all over it. I knew I wanted a western-ish theme to go with the horses, but I didn't want it to be super "country." We live in the midwest and that's not exactly out of the ordinary out here, ha. I am originally from out west, so I drew a bit from what "western" looked like out there. My hair and makeup stylist recently rebranded her business with me to a very natural, earthy, boho brand, so I also drew inspiration from that being fresh in my mind and added in some free-spirited boho vibes. It was fun to combine something that the girls were so excited about, with something that went really well with my stylist's new brand that she wanted to post about, with some of my roots as well as another family business!”
