Eye on Fashion: A Teen's Perspective // Seeing Stars

“The night hath been a more familiar face than that of man,and in her starry shade of dim and solitary loveliness,I learned the language of another world.”~Lord Byron I’ve always been a big fan of space. The promise of foreign worlds and adventures, the beauty of stars at night, and that incredible feeling you get when you look out into the night sky and realize just how small and wonderfully insignificant you are in the grand scheme of things (this love may or may not have translated itself into a somewhat unhealthy obsession with the BBC’s Doctor Who). So you can imagine my excitement when I discovered the recent trend of space-related clothing. Patterns of stars and galaxies have made their way onto sweatshirts, dresses, skirts, hair ties, shoes, and just about anything else you can think of. These pieces are eye-catching as well as gorgeous(not to mention you can feel really cool being the only person in your English class with the Big Dipper on their shoes). The trick with wearing these pieces of clothing is that they are the focal point of your outfit(as it’ll usually be very busy and colorful). I would suggest other pieces of clothing being black or at least matched with the other colors on your outfit. Bold and trendy make-up is suggested to complete the “other-worldly” effect(don’t cake makeup on, just pick a bold lip/eye color or perhaps some glitter eyeshadow). And have fun with it! This is one fashion trend that encourages inventiveness.Screen Shot 2014-01-05 at 6.38.00 PMScreen Shot 2014-01-05 at 6.46.39 PM
