Eye on Fashion: A Teen's Perspective // Beanies
One popular accessory that I have yet to touch on in this column are beanies. Beanies have become especially popular with teens recently, as they go very well with the hipster/skater look. Not only are they the quintessential winter accessory, they’re slouchy, comfortable and yet still add a great deal to the stylishness of your outfit(Not to mention they are perfect for those days when you just can’t bring yourself to style your hair). There are a couple general rules of thumb/tips when it comes to wearing them:
- The “normal” day to wear a beanie is slightly over your forehead, with the back angled down. However, if you have bangs wear the beanie a bit further back on your head to make sure they show.
- There are two general types of beanies: cuffed or slouchy. Cuffed beanies have extra fabric along the edges that usually covers the forehead or ears. These beanies are generally worn over the forehead. Slouchy beanies are made of less fabric and tend to be thinner-- these are generally worn in warmer weather and sit farther back on the head than cuffed beanies(it’s important to note that if you find yourself not liking the fit of your slouchy beanie, you can easily fold the top over for a make-shift cuffed beanie).
