A Michigan Senior Session

Today's featured senior session comes to you from Victoria Simmons Photography, located in Lansing, Michigan!

"The entire day before this session, I don't think I stopped jumping down. I knew a younger dancer at an amazing dance company in Michigan, and had her get me in touch with Michaela. I was traveling to the area for graduation festivities for my brother, and really wanted to get an dance session in while I was visiting. The session took place at the Michigan State Capitol Building. Michaela is a senior in the Class of 2015. We shot early on a foggy morning. We were worried that the capitol building would be too crowded, but we were pleasantly surprised with a relatively empty building. Every different set had me going a bit crazy with excitement."

Gear: "This session was shot with a Canon 6D. I used both a Sigma 70-200mm 2.8 and a Canon 85mm 1.8. I used a reflector for a few of the shots, but primarily used natural light. While shooting inside the building, I pushed my ISO to the max, and still had to brighten it a bit in post-processing."

Inspiration: "I've been dreaming of this session for quite some time. I shot a dancer on the beach last fall, and wanted to branch out and try something different. Inspired by Black Swan, I wanted an edgy feel. Michaela and I worked together to style this session to make it exactly what I had imagined."

Victoria shared a little about herself: "My name is Victoria Simmons. I'm twenty-one years old and have been in business for about two and half years. I live in Southeast Georgia, but travel to Mid-Michigan pretty frequently as well. I started out shooting pretty much every kind of photography, but have recently started narrowing my offerings to seniors, couples, and lifestyle photography. My five year goal is to shoot only dancers and seniors. I'll be relocating to Columbus, Georgia at the end of the year and hope to open up a studio there shortly after we get settled."
